Stafford, VA (October 18, 2024) – MLT Systems (MLT), a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), proudly announces its successful completion of a Joint Surveillance Voluntary Assessment (JSVA), becoming one of the first companies to announce its achievement following the finalization of the 32 CFR rule for the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). MLT’s success underscores its commitment to cybersecurity. It highlights the ability of small businesses to meet the Department of Defense’s (DoD) CMMC requirements, which validate compliance with Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation (DFARS) 252.204-7012 and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) SP 800-171 standards.
MLT Systems achieved a perfect score of 110 in its JSVA, completing the assessment well ahead of the CMMC program’s effective date of December 16, 2024. By proactively adopting CMMC standards through the JSVA Program (JSVAP), MLT underwent a thorough evaluation against DFARS and NIST practices as outlined in the CMMC program rule. MLT not only met these rigorous requirements but also addressed key cybersecurity challenges with speed and precision, securing the highest possible score.
This assessment was conducted by Redspin, an Authorized CMMC Third Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO), in collaboration with the Department of Defense’s Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity Assessment Center (DIBCAC). Under Section 170.20 of the newly finalized 32 CFR rule, organizations like MLT that achieve a perfect score on a JSVA DIBCAC High Assessment with the same scope as a CMMC Level 2 Assessment will be granted Level 2 certification.
“CMMC and its validation of our cybersecurity practices have become an important part of our business development strategy,” said Aaron Balestreri, ISSM at MLT Systems, who led their JSVA efforts. “MLT has always prioritized cybersecurity, and with this JSVA early adopter CMMC achievement, we’ve strengthened our standing with the Department of Defense. For small businesses like ours, it’s not just about meeting requirements. It’s about doing everything right to protect sensitive information.”
Under the leadership of President/CEO Mark Tornai and COO Jerry Balestreri, MLT has evolved into a trusted provider of program management, engineering, logistics, IT, and budget management services for clients such as the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps and GSA. MLT’s JSVA success reflects years of preparation and collaboration, focusing on scoping and addressing the unique challenges of managing IT equipment provided to government facilities. Working alongside Redspin, the first authorized C3PAO, MLT navigated the complexities of the JSVA process. “Partnering with Redspin and DIBCAC was crucial to our success,” Aaron Balestreri added. “Their expertise allowed us to strengthen our cybersecurity posture and reaffirm our commitment to doing everything right.”
“The work doesn’t stop here,” said Jerry Balestreri. “As we continue to grow and evolve, cybersecurity will remain at the forefront of our operations, allowing us to better serve our clients and protect national security interests. Our successful JSVA completion is just the beginning—we’re already exploring new opportunities to enhance our cybersecurity efforts, including a potential move to GCC High for data management.”
